Trustees Approve 2018 Mini Grants
By
May 7, 2018The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation Board of Trustees awarded more than $5,000 in grants to four area youth camps as part of the Foundation’s Mini Grant Program. The grant program, which is open to the thirteen youth camps along the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District lakes, supports natural resource conservation, environmental education, and outdoor recreation projects.
The Foundation approved funding $1,590 for an educational weather station at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum (Leesville Lake, Carroll County); $1,000 for the GLOBE Hydrology Investigation Project at Camp Nuhop (Pleasant Hill Lake, Richland County); $2,000 for a forest lookout project at Camp Roosevelt Firebird (Leesville Lake, Carroll County); and $1,000 for a natural playground and music walls at Camp Wakonda (Leesville Lake, Carroll County).
"Each year thousands of children attend the youth camps along the MWCD lakes. The Mini Grant Program was established to help the camps enhance the educational experience and increase recreational opportunities for these youths," said Foundation Development Coordinator Nick Lautzenheiser.
The Mini Grant Program is funded from the proceeds of the Foundation’s Annual Meeting. “This is our third year of the Mini Grant Program,” said Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman Jim Schoch. “We hope to continue this program each year to support the great work of these youth camps. It would not be possible to have this grant program without the generous support from our members and sponsors," Schoch added.
The 4th Annual Meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Kent State University at Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center in New Philadelphia. Proceeds from the event will once again support the Mini Grant Program.
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the mission of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District by providing financial resources that enhance facilities, programs and conservation efforts on or adjacent to District lands and waters. Since 2004, the Foundation has funded 107 grant projects totaling over $363,000.
